About TroyDesk

TroyDesk ranks one coin or bar at a time. The number is the quantity-1 check or wire price, plus that dealer’s published shipping. The tables sort that delivered price.

We compare eight U.S. dealers: JM Bullion, SD Bullion, APMEX, Money Metals, Monument Metals, BGASC, Hero Bullion, and Bullion Exchanges. Each dealer has its own shipping fee and free-shipping threshold.

The order-size picker on each product page is “1 coin,” “$199+ order,” or “$500+ order.” The choice is saved in this browser. “1 coin” adds the fee unless the piece itself meets that dealer’s threshold. “$199+ order” and “$500+ order” treat the cart as at least that size, and a piece that already qualifies stays free. The sort uses the check, e-check, or wire column, not the card price.

Rank is not for sale. Buy buttons can be affiliate links, and that is disclosed on every product page. Commission does not change the order of the table.

Silver bars vs Silver Eagles is a comparison, not another product. It counts how many ounces the cheapest in-stock delivered 10 oz bar, 5 oz bar, 1 oz bar, Silver Maple, and Silver Eagle buy at $500, $1,000, and $2,000. Under that, one bar’s premium per ounce includes the 100 oz bar, which does not fit those budgets.

Shipping thresholds

Shipping in the rank is $0 once the piece or the selected cart size meets the threshold. Otherwise the small-order fee is added.

Those fees are for typical U.S. domestic checkout. Dealer policies change. The method is on How we rank.

Best deals

/deals is the current Monday–Sunday week, Eastern time. It uses the same quantity-1 delivered rank: the cheapest in-stock option for each product, the spread from that price to the priciest priced row, and in-stock pieces that moved from paid shipping to free shipping. A crossing needs a snapshot about seven days earlier, and that snapshot has to be at least five days old. Until one is on record, that section says none is. The daily snapshot runs at 14:20 UTC.

Price alerts

Product pages include an optional form: email me when this product drops below a delivered price you choose. Netlify Forms stores the email, the product name, the product id, and the target. Once a day, at 14:15 UTC, that target is compared with the cheapest in-stock quantity-1 delivered price. If the price is below the target, one email sends the price, the dealer, and a link to the page. If the price later rises above the target and drops below it again, that is a new alert. The email has a one-click unsubscribe that deletes the signup. Details are on Privacy.

When the numbers update

Each page load reads spot and premiums from the troydesk-data repository. If that request fails, the page uses the copies stored with this site. This site copies those files hourly at :20 UTC and updates the baked pages when they change.

Spot in that repository refreshes at 13:00, 17:00, and 21:00 UTC on weekdays. It is a delayed quote from gold-api.com, not a dealer’s price. The premium file usually updates around 14:00 UTC. Check/wire on TroyDesk is that spot times the ounces in the piece, plus the last premium on file.

BEST is the lowest delivered price among rows that are in stock, not a preorder, and have a numeric premium verified in the last 72 hours. A missing premium stays pending and cannot be BEST. Dealers change premiums during the day, so confirm the live page before you buy.
